Source: OPEC+ can discuss US call to raise oil output

MOSCOW, Aug 11 (PRIME) – The OPEC plus states have not discussed a U.S. call to raise the oil output but may to negotiate the issue in the future, a source in one of the delegations told PRIME on Wednesday.

"There have been no discussions between the members of the alliance on the topic,” the source said. “They (the discussions) continue informally, they constantly touch upon different issues, when there are emergencies on the oil market."

CNBC reported earlier citing national security advisor Jake Sullivan that the White House asked OPEC+ to raise oil output in order to counter rising gasoline prices. The July agreement to boost production by 400,000 barrels per day in August 2021 – January 2023 was insufficient, he said.

The source added that the negotiations on the issue were very likely to take place in the future.
